Most LinkedIn profiles in B2B look the same. A headshot, a job title, a list of previous roles. No clear message. No reason for anyone to connect, follow, or reach out.
That was the starting point when I began working with the founder of a Dubai-based AI software company serving the GCC retail market. His LinkedIn had around 400 connections. Mostly old colleagues and people he had met at events. No strategy. No outreach. No pipeline coming from the platform.
Two years later, the picture looked completely different.
The goal
The company built AI systems for enterprise retail operations. The ideal clients were large retail groups operating across UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Companies with revenues starting from $300 million per year. Decision makers who are notoriously hard to reach through traditional channels.
LinkedIn was the only channel where these people were reachable without paying for introductions or flying to every industry event in the region.
What we did
We started with the profile. Not the outreach. The profile had to work as a landing page before any connection request was sent. Headline, about section, featured block - everything was rewritten to speak directly to retail decision makers in the GCC.
Then we built the network systematically. Every week, new connection requests went out to the right people: CEOs, COOs, Heads of Retail and VP Operations at the largest retail groups across the region. Requests were personalized. Follow-up messages were short and relevant.
Content ran in parallel. Posts that spoke to retail operational challenges, not product features. The kind of content that makes a decision maker think "this person understands my world."
The results
Over 24 months:
- Connections grew from 400 to 8,000
- 200 meetings were booked with enterprise retailers operating across UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar
- 2 enterprise deals were closed with retail groups present in cities from Dubai to Doha
The network did not just grow in numbers. It became a genuine business development asset - a direct line into the decision-making layer of GCC retail.
What this means for B2B founders
LinkedIn is not a passive channel. It does not work if you update your profile once and wait. It works when you treat it as a systematic business development tool - with the right positioning, the right outreach, and content that builds credibility over time.
